Chinese Reading & Writing Development Programme (Ages 9+)
Herts Mandarin Level 4 is an important stage where students move from reading comprehension to independent written expression.
Through structured learning, students gradually develop reading skills comparable to approximately Year 2 primary level in China. They will be able to read texts of 150–300 Chinese characters, understand story structure, identify key information, and develop deeper comprehension skills.
At the same time, students begin to build confidence in writing. They learn to write structured pieces of around 80–150 Chinese characters while developing essential organisational and logical thinking skills.
The course focuses on three key areas of writing: narrative writing, descriptive writing, and simple opinion writing. Through continuous reading and language input, students expand their vocabulary, sentence patterns, and understanding of written Chinese.
Learning follows a clear progression of Read → Understand → Discuss → Write, helping students turn language input into meaningful communication and develop confidence in using Chinese independently.
By the end of Level 4, students will be able to write short structured paragraphs, organise ideas using basic logical structures such as sequence, cause and effect, and simple opinions, and build a strong foundation for more advanced academic Chinese study.
👉 After completing Level 4, students progress to the GCSE Chinese (Edexcel 9–1) Programme.

Herts Mandarin Level 4 是从“阅读理解”走向“独立写作表达”的关键阶段。经过系统学习，学生将逐步达到接近国内小学二年级的中文阅读水平，能够阅读150–300字文本，并理解故事结构与基本信息。同时，写作能力将发展至能够完成约80–150字的结构化表达，并具备基础逻辑组织能力。
