What is a Herts Mandarin Club?

Our Mandarin Clubs are designed for primary school children and delivered in a fun, structured, and age-appropriate way.

🌱 Key Stage 1 (KS1)

Our KS1 Mandarin Club is designed for children in Year 1–Year 2, introducing Mandarin through songs, games, picture books, interactive speaking and listening, early Chinese character learning, and cultural activities in a fun and age-appropriate way. Children explore the same themes together, while activities are adapted to their age, confidence and Mandarin level—younger or beginner learners may focus on listening, repeating, singing and recognising key words, while more confident learners begin to use short phrases, recognise simple Chinese characters and develop early writing skills. Through everyday topics, stories, Chinese festivals and creative activities, our goal is to build confidence, enjoyment and strong early foundations in Mandarin.

đź“š Key Stage 2 (KS2)

Our KS2 Mandarin Club combines Chinese reading, character learning and cultural exploration through a structured Multi-Level Chinese Reading approach for Year 3–Year 6. Children explore the same themes and stories together, while reading and learning tasks are adapted to their age and Chinese level. Younger or beginner learners may focus on recognising key characters, vocabulary and simple sentences, while older or more confident learners progress to longer texts, reading comprehension and more independent language use. Alongside reading, children develop vocabulary, sentence building, speaking, writing and typing skills, while exploring Chinese culture, festivals and traditions. Our goal is to build confident, independent Chinese readers while developing strong character knowledge and a deeper understanding of Chinese language and culture.
