Welcome to Herts Mandarin Club The Herts Mandarin Club is a unique after-school and enrichment programme that combines language learning, Chinese culture, and creative activities.

Perfect for clubs, tutors, or home educators, it builds confidence in Mandarin through songs, stories, games, and reading, tailored for KS1 and KS2 learners.

For learners aged 5–7 (Reception- Year2)

An engaging and flexible Mandarin series that supports both beginners and continuing learners, helping children build a foundation in spoken Mandarin, early writing, and cultural understanding.

A creative, story-based Mandarin learning journey that builds readingfluency, speaking confidence, and cultural awareness. This two-level programme supports learners from pinyin reading to full Chinese characters.

Chinese Character Learning: 4-Year Cycle-Across the KS2 programme, learners master:

Year 1: Learn to Read & Understand

Plan: Introduce and learn to recognize 180 high-frequency Chinese characters through words and short sentences.

Outcome: Can read and understand 180 characters in simple texts.

Year 2: Practice Writing Characters & Sentences

Plan: Practice writing all 180 characters and use them in words and basic sentence structures.

Outcome: Can write all characters with correct stroke order and form complete sentences.

Year 3: Review Through Storybooks

Plan: Reinforce all 180 characters by reading them repeatedly in storybooks.

Outcome: Can read full sentences and short stories fluently using known characters.

Year 4: Read & Write Stories

Plan: Review all 180 characters by reading and writing original short stories.

Outcome: Can confidently read and write stories using familiar vocabulary.
