After-School Club

We are proud to offer fun, structured Mandarin after-school clubs for children in Hertfordshire primary schools. These clubs are designed to help children learn the Mandarin language and explore Chinese culture in an engaging and supportive environment.

We are delighted to partner with Lochinver House School and Alban City School to run our Mandarin clubs.

Mandarin After-School Clubs Curriculum

Starter: Sing and Play Mandarin

  • Designed for: Nursery and Reception

  • Key Points:

    • Introduce Mandarin through engaging songs, games, and storytelling.

    • Build listening and speaking confidence with fun, interactive activities.

    • Learn basic vocabulary such as colors, numbers, and family members in a playful setting.

    • Develop fine motor skills through simple hands-on crafts linked to Mandarin culture.

Level 1: Sing and Learn Mandarin

  • Designed for: Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 beginners

  • Key Points:

    • Use music and rhymes to reinforce pronunciation and memorization.

    • Introduce simple sentence structures and conversational phrases.

    • Begin learning basic Chinese characters and reading skills.

    • Encourage role-play activities to practice speaking in real-life situations.

Level 2: Theme-Based Mandarin

  • Designed for: Year 2 and above

  • Key Points:

    • Expand Chinese character learning and strengthen reading skills.

    • Develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities.

    • Prepare for the YCT1 test (Youth Chinese Test Level 1).

    • Incorporate cultural elements such as traditional festivals, calligraphy, and storytelling to deepen cultural understanding.

Level 3: GCSE Foundation Building

  • Designed for: Year 3 and above

  • Key Points:

    • Establish a strong foundation for GCSE-level Mandarin with grammar and sentence construction.

    • Expand vocabulary and key phrases for both speaking and writing.

    • Improve comprehension through listening exercises and reading simple texts.

    • Introduce basic essay writing and structured responses to prepare for formal assessments.

    • Deepen cultural knowledge by exploring traditions, festivals, and current events in Mandarin-speaking regions.

We are excited to expand Mandarin learning to more schools across Hertfordshire, providing children with the opportunity to master this vital language while exploring the richness of Chinese culture.
