Our Vision and Mission

At Herts Mandarin, our vision is to cultivate a caring community where individuals learn and grow within small-sized classrooms.

Our mission is dedicated to teaching language and culture while supporting children as they prepare for the Young Chinese Test and GCSE Mandarin exams.

I'm Jenny, the founder and lead Mandarin teacher at Herts Mandarin.

In addition to my work as an IB world school Mandarin teacher in Central London, I'm also a proud bilingual mum to two wonderful children.

Outside the classroom, you'll often find me immersed in my passion for painting and all things creative. I firmly believe that art and creativity have a remarkable role to play in enhancing language learning experiences.

My mission as a Mandarin teacher is to create a classroom environment that is not only effective but also filled with joy and positivity.

I'm wholeheartedly dedicated to instilling in your children a lifelong love for learning a new language and exploring the rich tapestry of Chinese culture.

Hi, I’m Lillian, the Mandarin teacher at Herts Mandarin.

I currently work with Reception children in a Prep school in St Albans, and I run my own Mandarin club for Lower Prep.

I’m from Fujian, China, and I have been working with young children since 2018. My passion for teaching Mandarin began when I taught Dutch exchange students at university in 2016.

I truly enjoy working with young children and find it rewarding to build a rapport with them. I firmly believe that educating the young is the best way to empower the future and give back to our society.

I look forward to taking your child on this wonderful Mandarin learning journey!

Hi, I’m Shulan, the Mandarin and Cantonese teacher at Herts Mandarin.

I am originally from Guangzhou, and now part of a bilingual family in the UK. With over twelve years of experience working with young children in the UK school, I have developed a deep understanding of early childhood education, integrating creative classroom resources and activities to enrich learning. My work often incorporates my Chinese cultural background, using arts, crafts, and cultural activities to engage students in a meaningful and immersive way.

Since 2018, I have been teaching both Mandarin and Cantonese, working with children of various ages and abilities. In addition, I serve as a GCSE Chinese oral examiner at several schools, giving me insight into formal language assessment.

I look forward to teach your children and share the beauty of Chinese language and culture with them.

Jenny's Story – Herts Mandarin Journey

My journey in Mandarin education began in 2014 when I started teaching at a prestigious British international school in Shanghai. There, I witnessed the transformative power of Mandarin on young minds, igniting my passion for its ability to inspire and empower students.

In 2016, I moved to the UK, specializing in teaching children aged 0-5 at a trilingual nursery in West London. This experience deepened my understanding of the unique developmental needs of young learners.

By 2017, I had taken on the role of primary Mandarin teacher at an International Baccalaureate (IB) world school in central London, where I focused on developing language skills and fostering a multicultural outlook.

The most heartwarming part of my journey began when I became a mother, which inspired me to teach Mandarin to my own children. This shared passion with like-minded mothers led to the creation of a close-knit Chinese community, where we immersed our children in Mandarin, instilling in them a love for the language.

As the demand for Mandarin education grew in our community, we launched Saturday Chinese classes at Verulam Schools in St. Albans in 2023. Our small class sizes and personalized approach provide the perfect environment for each child to unlock their potential in Mandarin.

Join us at Herts Mandarin, where we nurture a lifelong love for this beautiful language together.
