Level 1:绘本与童谣Picture Books & Nursery Rhymes(3+)

Level 1 creates a joyful and immersive Mandarin environment where young learners build early reading awareness and develop a natural curiosity for the language. Children explore 30 themed storybooks from the panda-themed beginner series and learn 30 popular Mandarin nursery rhymes, developing listening and speaking skills naturally through rhythm and melody. The program centers on playful, interactive activities that encourage vocabulary growth, confident expression, and independent learning habits. This stage lays a strong foundation for future leveled reading and invites families to engage through parent-child reading, strengthening connection and language development at home. Weekly parent-child reading tasks support continued learning at home while helping children build consistent Mandarin reading habits.

Herts Mandarin Level 2:分级阅读 Leveled Reading Stage 1(5+)

第一阶段为期三年,旨在系统提升孩子的中文阅读能力。第一年先掌握 180 个高频汉字,为正式进入分级阅读体系打下扎实基础。课程采用小彼恩中文分级阅读·故事系列 Stage 1,在接下来的两年中完成 1–4 级共 111 本分级绘本,每周阅读一本。课堂通过故事讨论、书写练习与互动游戏,强化阅读策略与文本理解能力,提升字词积累、拼读技巧与图文联读等综合阅读素养。课程结束时,孩子能够独立阅读短篇故事、理解人物情感,并用完整句子表达自己的想法,阅读水平可达中国语文一年级程度。课后安排亲子共读与每周书面作业,帮助巩固阅读成果,同时增进亲子之间的互动与情感交流。

Stage 1 is a three-year program focused on developing strong Chinese reading proficiency. In the first year, students learn 180 high-frequency characters, forming a solid foundation for entering the leveled-reading system. Using the Little Bean Chinese Graded Reading – Story Series Stage 1 (Levels 1–4), students complete 111 leveled picture books over the following two years, reading one book per week. Through story discussions, writing practice, and interactive classroom activities, children steadily build reading strategies, expand vocabulary, improve pronunciation, and strengthen both textual and visual comprehension. By the end of the program, students can independently read short stories, understand characters’ emotions, and express their ideas in full sentences—reaching a reading level comparable to Grade 1 in the Chinese curriculum. Weekly parent-child reading and written homework support consistent practice at home while fostering meaningful family connection and communication.

Level 3:GCSE 基础级别中文课程 GCSE Route Mandarin – Foundtion Level (7+, Beginner or with some Mandarin)

三级课程为期四年,旨在系统提升学生中文能力,从零基础起步,循序渐进达到 Mandarin GCSE 基础水平。课程适合零基础学生及已有一定中文基础的学员,通过差异化教学满足个体学习需求。前期采用 Jinbu 1 & 2 教材,打牢听、说、读、写基础,帮助学生建立语言自信;随后进入 Level 4 Edexcel GCSE 3 年学习阶段,逐步准备官方 Mandarin GCSE 考试。课堂通过丰富的互动活动和真实情境练习,结合语言学习与中华文化探索,全方位提升学生的听说读写能力,为未来考试和高级学习打下稳固基础。课后安排每周家庭作业(约 30–60 分钟),帮助巩固课堂所学,同时培养自主学习与复习习惯。

Level 3 is a four-year course designed to systematically develop students’ Mandarin skills, starting from complete beginners and progressing step by step to a foundational level suitable for the Mandarin GCSE. It is suitable for students with no prior experience as well as those with some Mandarin background, with differentiated support tailored to individual learning needs. In the early stages, Jinbu 1 & 2 materials are used to build a strong foundation in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, helping students gain confidence in the language. Students then move on to Level 4 Edexcel GCSE study over three years, preparing step by step for the official Mandarin GCSE exams. Classroom activities combine engaging interactions and real-life scenarios with language and cultural learning, developing comprehensive language skills and laying a solid foundation for future exams and advanced study. Weekly homework tasks (approximately 30–60 minutes) reinforce classroom learning while fostering independent study and revision habits.

Level 4:GCSE 高级中文课程 GCSE Route Mandarin – Advanced Level (11+, with solid Mandarin foundation)

Level 4 为期三年,针对已有扎实中文基础的学生,专注于系统备考 Edexcel GCSE Chinese,将语言能力提升到应对 GCSE 考试的全面水平。课程覆盖听、说、读、写四项技能,注重词汇、语法、翻译与真实语境应用能力的综合训练,包括理解日常与学术中文、讨论社会与文化话题、书写规范中文作文及翻译练习。课堂通过互动活动、情境模拟与文化内容引入,帮助学生在语言表达与理解上更加流利和精准。课后安排每周家庭作业与复习任务,以巩固课堂内容、扩展词汇与书写技巧,同时培养良好复习习惯,为正式参加 Edexcel GCSE Mandarin 考试做好充分准备。

Level 4 is a three-year course designed for students with a solid foundation in Mandarin, aimed at thoroughly preparing them for the Edexcel GCSE Chinese examinations. The curriculum develops all four key language skills — listening, speaking, reading, and writing — with a strong focus on vocabulary, grammar, translation, and real-world language use, including understanding everyday and academic Chinese, discussing social and cultural topics, writing structured compositions, and completing translation exercises. Lessons combine interactive activities, scenario-based tasks, and cultural content to enhance fluency, comprehension, and expressive accuracy. Weekly homework and revision tasks consolidate learning, expand vocabulary and writing skills, and cultivate good study habits, ensuring students are fully prepared and confident for the Edexcel GCSE Mandarin exam.

    Ever since Isla started attending Jenny's weekend Chinese classes, her enthusiasm and curiosity for the Chinese language have remained strong since her return from a vacation in China. Isla has shown a great willingness to participate in the weekend classes, and she thoroughly enjoys having Jenny as her teacher. She proudly brings home newly acquired words, sentences, nursery rhymes, and concepts learned in class.

    Isla also enjoys the company of her fellow classmates and their parents who attend the classes. As a parent, I greatly appreciate the supportive and non-intrusive atmosphere, which allows the children to engage in independent learning opportunities.

    I am also deeply impressed by the quality of the course materials and admire Jenny's ability to instill confidence in the children, especially when it comes to reading and writing. I never expected three-year-old children to possess the willingness and ability for such tasks, but Jenny excels at nurturing their curiosity and self-assurance. This makes learning Chinese feel entirely natural and enjoyable for the kids.

    I personally feel that we are very fortunate to have Jenny and her Chinese classes in our community, and we plan to continue attending them. Go, Jenny!
