Herts Mandarin GCSE Chinese is designed to prepare students for the Edexcel GCSE Chinese (9–1) qualification. This stage marks the transition from language learning to academic Chinese and exam preparation.
The course is designed for students aged 11 and above and is typically completed over a three-year period. Through structured and progressive learning, students develop Chinese language skills equivalent to approximately Year 3 primary level in China, while building the confidence and ability to achieve GCSE grades 6–9.
The programme focuses on the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students gradually develop from basic language understanding to text analysis, structured communication, and examination techniques.
The course follows a three-year pathway:
Year 1 – Building language foundations and understanding the GCSE exam structure.
Year 2 – Strengthening language knowledge, communication skills, and written expression.
Year 3 – Intensive exam preparation, past paper practice, and exam strategies to ensure confident performance.
By the end of the course, students are able to approach the GCSE Chinese (Edexcel 9–1) examination with confidence and have the skills needed to achieve grades 6–9. They also develop strong and practical Chinese language abilities that can be used beyond the examination setting.
