YCT Structure
The YCT is divided into two independent sections: a written test and an oral test.
Written Test
The written test consists of four levels:
• YCT Level 1: For students with a vocabulary of about 80 words. Successful candidates can understand and use basic Chinese words and sentences, preparing them for further Chinese studies.
• YCT Level 2: For students with a vocabulary of about 150 words. Successful candidates can meet minimal communication needs using basic Chinese words and sentences.
• YCT Level 3: For students with a vocabulary of about 300 words. Successful candidates can engage in simple, direct communication on familiar topics, achieving a foundational level of proficiency.
• YCT Level 4: For students with a vocabulary of about 600 words or more. Successful candidates can handle basic communication tasks in life, study, and work, as well as manage most interactions while traveling in China.
Oral Test
The oral test is divided into two levels:
• YCT-Speaking (Basic)
• YCT-Speaking (Intermediate)
